Iris
I wanted to create a larger-than-life feeling, to emphasize the beauty, color, and undulating shapes of the flowers. I like to give my subjects personality, showing playful movement in "Poppy Dance," and viewer as the butterfly approach, in "Butterfly-eyed View." The crocus is often the first flower that's noticed as the snow melts and the weather warms. This one I found alone, hiding under the shade of a large bush. A warm summer day is a welcome event, like the display of this grand Iris in all its glory. Giant sunflowers are a wonder to see, and I painted this one with its face shining toward the sun, basking in the light and waving proudly in the breeze, to show off its grandeur and strength.
